What are Lice?
The horse biting louse, Werneckiella (Bovicola) equi, is a parasite commonly found on horses in the mane, on the body or the neck. The entire life cycle of the louse is completed on the horse.

Each female lays between 20 and 300 eggs, attached to the hair of the horse, which hatch in 5 to 10 days. After eggs hatch, nymphs start feeding immediately and become mature sexually active adults within 3 to 4 weeks. This large number of eggs and short life cycle results in lice populations being capable of rapid explosion.

How do I know if my horse has Lice?
Horses suffering with lice will exhibit itching.

Signs to look for include:
* Itching
* Rough coat
* Rubbing
* Unthriftiness in heavy infestations

How does my horse get Lice?
Sources of infestation can be neighbouring horses and points of horse-to-horse contact, such as pony clubs or competitive events. Sharing equipment such as rugs, blankets, saddlery or harnesses can also transport lice between horses. Therefore, equipment used on lice-infested horses should also be treated for lice.

How can I treat for Lice?
In the past, lice have been killed with various success rates using a variety of highly toxic or harsh chemical products, only to find the lice return. Lice 'N Simple breaks the life cycle of the parasite, stops eggs hatching and prevents nymphs from developing to control the lice over a longer period.

Lice 'N Simple is applied as a pour-on along the horse's back. Whenever lice are seen or suspected apply Lice 'N Simple as a continuous midline pour-on using the measuring cup supplied, from the poll (back of ears), to the roots of the mane, along the backline to the highest point of the rump.
